Egg Drop Challenge

  • Team up with a partner
  • In this project I worked alone only because my partner was absent.
Define the challenge

  • The challenge: construct a barrier to protect the egg from breaking when dropped off the 2nd floor balcony of the 700 building.There is no criteria or constraints.
Brainstrom Solutions
  • 1st : Get sandwich plastic bags, bubblewrap, alot of tissue paper and tape.  
  • 2nd : Wrap the egg in the tissue paper and tape it. Then after place the egg in the plastic bag.
  • 3rd : Put the bubble wrap all around the plastic bag and tape it.
Achievements:
  • Brainstorming-Create a sketch of one possible solution. Include labels.
  • Create a sketch of another possible solution. Include labels.
  • Create a sketch of a third possible solution. Include labels.
Material Prep:
  • Bubble wrap
  • Tape
  • Tissue paper
  • Sandwich plastic bags
Drop Accuracy:
  • The egg hit the floor just fine. The egg however, bounced a little bit but landed okay.
Egg Resilience:
  • When the egg drop was over and we had to see if it had any cracks in it my egg was successful and did not break.

    You're off to a great start with this one. I'd like to see the sketches that you came up with for your design. I'd also like (if possible) to see a few more photos of your solution.

    How did your design work out for you? What did you learn about it based on your drop? What would you change to improve its performance?

    Also, do you have any material for your Glider Challenge effort that you can post?
